The opening of March 2019 saw the clash of two very different films – Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpai and Ashotush Rana starrer dacoit-drama, Sonchiriya, and Karthik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon romantic-drama, Luka Chuppi. Let us see which film collected more at the box office on its first day.
Sonchiriya had a very good star cast comprising of Sushant Singht Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpai, Ashutosh Rana and Ranvir Shorey with a gripping trailer. Released in 2000 screens across, Sonchiriya earned very good reviews but tanked at the box office, collecting just Rs 6.66 crore against a budget of Rs 30 Crore all inclusive of prints and advertising cost (Production Cost: 22 Crores, Prints & Advertising Cost: 8 Crores)
Probably, one of the most awaited release of the season, Luka Chuppi stars Kartik Aaryan, who is the current youth icon along with every guy’s crush, Kriti Sanon. While Kartik Aaryan came of from the success of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Kirti Sanon was last seen in immensely likable, Bareily Ki Barfi. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the trailer of Luka Chuppi was hilarious with adequate support from Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Vinay Pathak.
Promoted as makers of Stree, Luka Chuppi released in 3000 screens and collected a mindblowing figure of Rs 94.09 crore against a budget of Rs 25 crores (Production Cost: 18 Crores, Prints & Advertising Cost: 7 Crores)
