Movie : The Sky Is Pink
Director : Shonali Bose
Rating : 4/5
It has been quite a long time since we saw a film which talked about real-life emotions, sacrifices and situations which all revolve around what goes in making a family function! The Sky Is Pink, directed wonderfully by Shonali Bose is one such film. The film is based on the real life struggles plus adventures of a family of four namely Niren Chaudhary (Farhan Akhtar), Aditi Chaudhary (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), Ishan Chaudhary (Rohit Saraf) and the most special, Aisha Chaudhary (Zaira Wasim), who became a motivational speaker after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. A tale blended with such intense emotions which stay with you even outside the movie-theaters and teaches you something all humans must learn! A film which makes it evident that if life is a test of time, it still can give you inspiration to live even when it’s over.
Plot : After a few struggles which deals with typical Indian parents, Niren gets married to the love of his life, Aditi and they embark on a journey which they could have never thought of in their wildest of dreams. They lose their baby daughter in less than an year after getting diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. The film starts with talking about Ayesha, a 14 year old teenager who is terminally ill but never lost her sunshine and spark. She dies in the initial part of the film which makes us think that she has a little to offer but as it turns out, it’s all about Ayesh and Zaira has proved that she is a born star with her act. And, we see Priyanka Chopra returning to Bollywood silver screen with full power like the bonafide superstar she is, in the role of a mother who is always stressed after her daughter’s health yet in control! What happens next in the Chaudhary family is a beautiful and heart-wrenching tale of mixed emotions and obviously what life & death teaches you.
What We Liked : There are three stars in the film in total. The director Shonali Bose who has crafted the film with pure love and her art and not to forget, her masterpiece of a writing. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who is the nation’s pride in the west has returned to her original turf showing who is the actual boss with her vulnerable yet powerful act of Aditi. And lastly, the star of the whole story, Zaira Wasim, who has officially said a goodbye to cinema, makes us believe that an artist doesn’t need a lot of experience to give a lifetime of a performance. We felt what Ayesha felt and the credit solely goes to this gifted actor.
What We Didn’t Like : Absolutely nothing! We loved the whole idea of the film as it covers and shows what movies should actually teach you. A film with a message so deep that it will grow inside you as you leave the theaters.
