The Best LGBTQ Shows and Movies to Watch Now on Netflix

Use Pride as a time to celebrate AND educate.

In celebration of Pride, we’ve rounded up some must-watch LGBTQ shows and movies on Netflix that are available to stream right now. These incredible stories reflect different lives on screen and champion new perspectives.

The Half of It – For Ellie Chu writing homework papers was a way of making extra money. Little did she know that writing letters for the college jock will turn into Ellie pouring out her feelings for the person they both have a crush on.

Orange is The New Black – The OG Netflix show which broke the usual tropes of stereotypical portrayal of LGBTQ community. With an edgy storyline aside, and unforgettable characters such as Piper, Alex, Big Boo, Nicky, Poussey, and Suzanne, OITNB made an effort to highlight the toils and turmoil faced by this marginalized community in a dark yet comic manner.

Queer Eye – Any conversation about LGBTQ shows are uncomplete without the Fab 5 boys travelling across the continent and changing lives forever.

Schitt’s Creek – One of the funniest comedies in the recent times, a distinctive factor that set this show apart was that it went beyond the usual lesbian/ gay relationships, and had a pansexual lead character. With the pansexual community’s representation in the media being next to non-existent, David Rose is a beautifully written character. And as David elaborates to Stevie, it is the wine, and not the label that matters.

Grace & Frankie – The ever polished Grace, and the hippie Frankie have never particularly liked each other but things take a turn when their husbands decide to acknowledge their true sexuality, and get married; thrusting Grace and Frankie into each other’s orbit. A rare piece of entertainment with a storyline that wasn’t just empathetic towards the LGBTQ community but also recognized that humans (read women) at any age are sexual beings.

Sex Education – With its nuanced portrayal of LGBTQ characters, Sex Education has won hearts all around. Whether it is the happy as a peach Eric, or somewhat confused Adam or Rahim who is completely comfortable in his skin, this show is nothing short of a joy ride.

Alex Strangelove – High school is complicated as it is, but for Alex life take a whole new turn when he meets a charming gay kid, leading him to question his own sexual identity.
Hollywood – As if being in love with a person belonging to the same gender as yours, in a post World War II era wasn’t scandalous enough, imagine being in an inter-racial gay relationship while being in the showbiz business!
