Swift announced her support in an Instagram post to her 283 million followers shortly after the U.S. presidential debate, also backing Harris' running mate, Tim Walz. Swift emphasized the importance of calm leadership over chaos, encouraging her fans to register to vote.

Swift’s statement comes after AI-generated images falsely depicting her support for Donald Trump circulated online in August. Concerned about misinformation, she clarified her stance, stating, "I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter."

The Trump campaign dismissed Swift's endorsement, with spokesperson Karoline Leavitt suggesting the Democratic party represents "wealthy elites." Despite this, Swift's support may mobilize her large Gen Z fanbase, especially on women’s rights, a key issue favoring Democrats.

Swifties for Kamala, a fan coalition supporting Harris, launched in August and has already raised over $138,000 for the campaign.
