Taylor Swift dominated the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in Manchester, winning Best Artist, Best U.S. Act, Best Live Act, and Best Video for her song “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. Swift, currently wrapping up her Eras tour, expressed gratitude to her fans through a video message.

South African breakout star Tyla also made waves, winning Best Afrobeats, Best R&B, and Best African Act. Tyla energized the audience with performances of her viral hit “Water” and new track “Push 2 Start.” Her impressive wins marked a breakthrough moment for African artists at the EMAs.

The night kicked off with a striking performance by Benson Boone, who performed “Beautiful Things” and “Slow it Down” while suspended over the stage. Boone also took home the Best New Act award.

Rita Ora, hosting for the third time, paid tribute to former One Direction member Liam Payne, who passed away last month. Reflecting on their friendship and collaboration, Ora led a moment of silence, honoring Payne’s legacy in an emotional segment.

In recognition of his 34-year career, hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes received the Global Icon Award from British rapper Little Simz. Busta performed a medley of hits, including “Break Ya Neck” and “Put Your Hands Where the Eyes Can See,” backed by dancers in dragon-themed costumes.

Other major winners included Sabrina Carpenter, who won Best Song for “Espresso,” while Shawn Mendes, who performed live, was awarded Best Canadian Act. Ariana Grande won Best Pop Act, Eminem took Best Hip Hop Act, and BTS’s Jimin took home Best K-Pop award.

The U.K. duo Pet Shop Boys closed the show, receiving the first-ever Pop Pioneers Award and performing their classic “West End Girls,” celebrating 40 years since its release.
