Fans of the hit Netflix supernatural drama "Stranger Things" received an exciting update on Monday as the show's creators announced that the filming for its fifth and final season has reached the halfway point. Accompanying the announcement, a behind-the-scenes video was shared, providing a glimpse into the highly anticipated upcoming season.
The showrunners, Matt and Ross Duffer, took to Instagram with the message: "Take it all in, nerds…we’ve hit the halfway mark of filming the final season and wanted to give you all a look at what we’ve been up to." The video opens with a nostalgic shot of Castle Byers, the makeshift fort constructed by characters Will (Noah Schnapp) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) in the series.
Millie Bobby Brown, who portrays Eleven, reflects on her journey with the show, noting, "So, I started when I was 10. Now, I’m 20 years old." The clip also revisits Hawkins High School, featuring Finn Wolfhard’s Mike, Noah Schnapp’s Will, Caleb McLaughlin’s Lucas, Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin, and Sadie Sink’s Max. "We’re just kind of savoring every single moment," Sadie Sink remarks, highlighting the emotional weight of the final season.
Jamie Campbell Bower, known for his role as Vecna, hints at the scale of the new season, stating, "Season 4 was big. Season 5 definitely feels bigger." New cast members Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux are set to join the ensemble, while familiar faces such as Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalie Dyer, Maya Hawke, and Joe Keery will return.
The Duffer brothers previously revealed to Netflix Tudum that a comprehensive 25-page document had been written to explore the mythology of the Upside Down. “The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5,” they teased.
In a recent Instagram post, one behind-the-scenes photo shared by the Duffer brothers shows Nancy Wheeler (Natalie Dyer) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) looking terrified in the back of Steve Harrington’s (Joe Keery) BMW, further fueling fan anticipation.
The writers began crafting the narrative for Season 5 on August 2, 2022, shortly after the premiere of Season 4, Volume 2. As filming progresses, the excitement continues to build for what promises to be an epic conclusion to the beloved series.
