India captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20I cricket after leading the team to its second World Cup victory in the format, stating it was the ideal moment to bid farewell. Rohit revealed his decision during the press briefing following India's triumph over South Africa by seven runs in the final at Kensington Oval, Barbados. "This was my final match too. There couldn't have been a better occasion to retire. I had been longing for this trophy. It's difficult to express in words," Rohit said during the post-match media interaction.

Rohit Sharma didn't intend to retire from T20Is initially, but circumstances led him to make that decision. India's captain announced his departure from T20I cricket after leading the team to its second World Cup victory in the format, describing it as the opportune moment to bid farewell. Rohit disclosed his choice during a press conference following India's seven-run victory over South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval, Barbados. "This was my final match as well. There couldn't have been a better time to retire. I had been longing for this trophy. It's hard to put into words," Rohit expressed during the post-match media interaction.

"I had desired this and it came to pass. I really wanted this in my career. I'm glad we managed to achieve it this time," he added.

At 37 years old, Rohit had captained India in the 2022 T20 World Cup where the team exited in the semifinals against eventual champions England. The following year, under his leadership, India reached the final of the 50-over World Cup at home but lost to Australia in the title clash in Ahmedabad.

Rohit finishes his T20I career with 4231 runs from 159 matches, including five centuries and 32 half-centuries. He remains active in Test and ODI formats.

A viral video on social media shows him explaining to reporters that he had not initially planned to retire from T20Is but felt it was the perfect scenario. "I didn't anticipate retiring from T20Is, but circumstances dictated it... I felt it was the ideal moment for me. There's nothing better than winning the cup and bidding farewell," Rohit stated in the video.

Rohit Sharma expressed, "I wasn't planning on retiring from T20Is, but circumstances prompted me to make that decision."

It's possible he's contemplating assembling a new team. Retirement might have been his own consideration.
