India captain Rohit Sharma expressed contentment after pacer Arshdeep Singh flawlessly executed his plans in the 3rd and last ODI against England in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. This moment occurred following the 2nd delivery of the seventh over of England’s innings, with Arshdeep giving India a significant breakthrough by dismissing Ben Duckett.
Duckett had previously smashed Arshdeep for 4 consecutive boundaries in the pacer's previous over. Anyways, as Duckett started to get dangerous, Arshdeep removed him in the next over. Duckett, who was struggling with a groin injury, couldn't read Arshdeep's knuckle ball & mistimed his pull due to limited foot movement. Rohit, positioned accurately at mid-off, made no mistake in taking the catch. Later on, Rohit performed a brain-tap gesture, signaling that Arshdeep’s plan had worked as intended.
Previously, Shubman Gill continued his excellent form, scoring 112 to help India post 356 all out, their highest-ever total at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Gill shared a 116-run partnership for the second wicket along with Virat Kohli, who contributed 52 by providing a solid base for a challenging total after India were asked to bat first in Ahmedabad.
Shreyas Iyer, too played a vital role by scoring 78 off 64 balls, as England's bowlers struggled, apart from Adil Rashid’s remarkable 4-64.
Skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed for one and he was caught behind off Mark Wood in a disappointing performance following his 119 in the earlier match, which gave India an unassailable 2-0 series lead.
Shubham Gill, who had reclaimed the opening spot from Yashasvi Jaiswal, raised his 3rd consecutive fifty after scores of 87 and 60 in the first two wins.
Kohli reached a run-a-ball fifty by marking his return to form after an inconsistent Test series in Australia.
