Indian captain Rohit Sharma has seemingly alleviated worries regarding his fitness, as the 37-year-old was seen batting in the nets on Friday, facing players like Hardik Pandya & Harshit Rana during the team’s training session. India is now all set to face New Zealand in their final Group B match in the Champions Trophy, which will determine their standing and the subsequent semi-final encounter.
Rohit had experienced similar hamstring discomfort during India’s match against Pakistan last Sunday & even had to leave the field for a brief period while the team was fielding. Anyhow, he returned to bat in his usual aggressive manner before being dismissed by Shaheen Afridi for 20 runs off 15 balls.
In India’s opening match of the tournament against Bangladesh, Rohit had made a valuable contribution, scoring 41 runs off 35 balls, setting a strong foundation for the side in their 229-run chase. With growing talks surrounding potential squad rotation ahead of the semi-finals, KL Rahul gave assurance that fitness is not an issue for any key players, including captain Rohit and pacer Mohammed Shami.
“Fitness-wise, there are no concerns about anyone missing a game as far as I know,” Rahul elaborated during a press conference on Friday.
