Former India captain Kapil Dev has made a significant statement about Rohit Sharma following India’s crushing defeat in the 2nd Test in opposition to Australia. India got defeated the pink-ball Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets. In the aftermath of the loss, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev elaborated that 1 defeat shouldn’t lead to doubts about Rohit’s leadership abilities. He also stated hope for Rohit to regain his form before the 3rd Test.
"He doesn’t need to prove himself. He has been performing consistently for many years, so we shouldn’t question someone based on just one defeat. I won’t doubt him. I hope his form returns, as that’s what matters," Kapil Dev stated this on Tuesday.
Rohit Sharma had missed the 1st Test due to the birth of his 2nd child. Despite his most successful run as an opener, the 37-year-old moved down to the 6 number spot, making way for KL Rahul at the top, who played an important role in India’s win in Perth.
Kapil Dev further told Rohit as the captain, "If you start questioning someone’s leadership after just one or two performances, it’s unfair. Just six months ago, after he won the T20 World Cup, no one would have asked me this question. Trust his abilities and talent, he will bounce back. The team will come back stronger."
When asked about the inclusion of young player Harshit Rana in the second Test, Kapil said that "I’m nobody to judge. There are experts responsible for making such decisions on team selection."
