Retired James Anderson Reveals IPL Registrations at 43 Years

England's legendary fast bowler James Anderson has revealed that he has registered for the upcoming IPL mega auction to enhance his understanding regarding the game. 

Anderson, who retired earlier in 2024 as the highest wicket-taking fast bowler in Test cricket history, made the surprising decision despite never having played in the IPL or a T20 match since 2014. He has listed himself for the auction, set to take place on 24th and 25th of November in Jeddah, with a base price of Rs 1.25 crore.

Anderson, who ended his Test career with 704 wickets from 188 matches, now stands as the 3rd-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, behind Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800 wickets) and Australia’s Shane Warne (708 wickets).

Speaking to BBC Radio 4 Today one of the podcasts, Anderson explained: "I still feel like I can play. I’ve never experienced the IPL and there’s something in me that makes me think I have more to offer as a player." 

He further elaborated that his goal in joining the IPL is not just to continue learning as a bowler but also to gain further experience to potentially move into coaching. "Since retiring earlier this year, I’ve been doing a bit of coaching, working around the England team, mentoring, and gaining insight for whatever comes next in my career," Anderson stated.
