After this, South African cricketer Faf du Plessis took over the captaincy from 2022 to 2024. However, ahead of the upcoming mega auction, a major change is on the horizon, with Kohli ready to reclaim the leadership position. A report confirms Kohli's return to lead his IPL squad.

Virat had previously announced his decision to resign from the RCB captaincy before the end of the 2021 season. Many analyzed that this choice was influenced by the franchise's failure to secure an IPL title during his tenacy.

Despite his departure, the team's struggles continued. In 2021, when he revealed his decision to step down, Kohli elaborated: "I will continue to be an RCB player until I play my final IPL match. It’s been an incredible journey of joy, frustration, happiness, and sadness over these 9 years, and I want to genuinely thank all of you for your relentless and unconditional support."
