India's javelin star couldn't retain the gold medal he won at the Tokyo Olympics. Neeraj Chopra's throw of 89.45 meters, his season's best, earned India its first medal of the 2024 Olympics. However, he was outperformed by Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who clinched gold with a world record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters.

Neeraj Chopra's coaching staff will experience a significant overhaul, as his current coach, Klaus Bartonietz, will not be with him year-round. Klaus will work with Neeraj for only a few months each year moving forward. Neeraj and his team are looking to upgrade his support staff.

Klaus Bartonietz, who has been working with Neeraj since 2019, will see his contract extended by the Athletics Federation of India until the end of the Paris Olympics. Under his guidance, Neeraj won gold in Tokyo and followed it with a silver medal in Paris. Klaus, a biomechanics expert, took over as Neeraj’s coach in late 2019, succeeding the renowned Uwe Hohn. His coaching led to significant improvements in Neeraj's throwing technique.

The final started with an unusual turn of events as Neeraj, Arshad, and Weber all fouled their initial attempts. Arshad's first throw was particularly challenging due to a hesitation during his run-up before he restarted.
