World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev on Friday raised his concern about the increasing number of injuries among Indian cricketers, attributing the problem to the packed schedule that keeps players active for almost 10 months each year.
The National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru has become a rehabilitation center, with players spending more time recovering themselves rather than practicing.
The latest player to fall victim to injury is India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who had to miss the 2nd innings of the final Test in Sydney due to some back issue. Previousy named in the Champions Trophy squad, Bumrah has now been ruled out.
"The only thing that worries me is that they play for 10 months a year -- injuries will be much more common," the 1983 World Cup-winning captain said at the Tata Steel Golf prize distribution ceremony here.
When it was asked if Bumrah’s absence would be felt in the Champions Trophy, Kapil elaborated that players should focus on supporting each other rather than fixating on those who are injured.
