As Delhi chased a difficult target of 206 runs, they quickly lost their underperforming opener, Jake Fraser-McGurk. Karun was introduced as an impact substitute & he effortlessly changed the dynamics of the match.

He unleashed a wonderful range of shots from his extensive repertoire and tilted the momentum in favor of Delhi. He went on the attack during the powerplay, capitalizing on the pitch _ smashing everything that came his way, no matter the bowler's reputation. After showcasing his thrilling batting display, Karun became only the second player from Delhi to score over 50 runs in the powerplay of an IPL match. The young Australian Fraser-McGurk is the only other player to achieve this feat, having done it 2 times in the previous edition of the lucrative league.

Karun reached his half-century in just 22 balls, with much of the damage caused upon Mumbai's leading bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. Regarded as one of the best fast bowlers in the world today, Nair deciphered Bumrah's deliveries very easily. He struck three fours & two sixes off him in just 8 deliveries.
