The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025 is expected to be a highly anticipated event. Fans are eager to see the season unfold as teams showcase a new look following the mega auction held in November last year. While each team was allowed to retain up to six players, including the Right-to-Match option, the rest of the squad was formed through the auction process.
The bidding wars saw some significant names being acquired for massive sums, adding to the excitement surrounding IPL 2025. Notably, Rishabh Pant became the highest-priced player in IPL auction history, with Lucknow Super Giants securing him for INR 27 crore.
As per a Cricbuzz report, IPL 2025 will begin on March 22, featuring a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The defending champions, KKR, will face RCB, who recently announced Rajat Patidar as their new captain. The match will take place at Eden Gardens. Last year’s runners-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad, will also play their opening match at home against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal on March 23.
The report further mentioned that the final will be held in Kolkata on Sunday, May 25.
Additionally, the report revealed that in addition to the 10 regular venues—Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Mullanpur, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Hyderabad—matches will also be hosted in Guwahati and Dharamsala.
Guwahati is set to host a couple of Rajasthan Royals' 'home' matches on March 26 and 30, with Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings as the opponents. Dharamsala is expected to host a few home games for Punjab Kings.
Earlier, on January 12, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, who participated in the Special General Meeting in Mumbai, stated, "IPL is going to start from March 23."
