The T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, along with support staff, will be honored in a private ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning. After a three-day delay in the Caribbean islands following their victory against South Africa in the final on June 29, the team, their families, coaching staff, BCCI officials, and accompanying sports journalists will return home via a special flight arranged by the board. Departing from New Jersey, USA, on July 2, the flight landed at Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados around 2 a.m. local time, departing at approximately 4:50 a.m. and scheduled to land in the Indian capital on Thursday around 6:20 a.m. IST.

Originally set to depart at 6 p.m. local time on July 2 and arrive at 7:45 p.m. IST on Wednesday, departure was delayed due to the late arrival of the plane. Upon arrival, the players will meet with PM Modi around 9:30 a.m. for a felicitation ceremony expected to last a few hours. Subsequently, they will travel to Mumbai via another chartered flight.

India Today reports that upon arrival at Mumbai airport, the team will proceed to Wankhede Stadium, with the final kilometer of the journey conducted in an open bus—a tradition observed since the MS Dhoni-led team's victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007.

The report further notes a presentation ceremony at Wankhede Stadium, where Captain Rohit Sharma will hand over the World Cup trophy to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. The trophy will remain at the BCCI headquarters for the next two years. By Thursday evening, players will depart for their respective hometowns.
