India ended their week-long medal drought at the Paris Olympics on Thursday by winning bronze in men’s hockey with a 2-1 win over Spain. India’s captain, Harmanpreet Singh, led his team to bronze with two quick goals (30’, 33’). Spain had briefly taken the lead with a penalty stroke from Marc Miralles (18’).

Harmanpreet Singh ended as the leading goal-scorer in men’s hockey at Paris 2024, making 10 goals in total. His tally included seven penalty corner goals and three penalty strokes. India secured their fourth medal at the Paris Games, with this one being the first not won by the shooting team.

The Indian men’s hockey team achieved a medal in consecutive Olympics for the first time since winning bronze in 1968 and 1972.India won bronze in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a 5-4 victory over Germany, marking their first Olympic medal in hockey since the gold they secured in Moscow 1980.
