It was a disappointing performance for the leads Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the recent Test series against Australia. Despite a wonderful century in the first Test, Kohli ended the series with 190 runs at an average of 23.75 across eight innings. Rohit's situation was even more serious, as he managed only 31 runs in 3 matches before deciding to step down for the final Test in Sydney. With ambiguity about their future in the team, a report by Dainik Jagran suggested that the star batters are unlikely to retire voluntarily by leaving the decision in the hands of the selectors.
The report stated that BCCI officials were not satisfied with India's performance in Australia, but they would face difficulties in pushing the duo into retirement due to their stature and previous achievements.
"The officials of the team are also unhappy with the defeat. The team going through a difficult phase of change will now have to do a lot of introspection after returning home. When asked about this, the top BCCI official said I was listening to Gavaskar and Irfan after the match.
When asked about Virat and Rohit, he said there are no indications that these two will retire from Tests on their own.
