Ashwin's Remarkable Delivery: A Game-Changer Against New Zealand

Ravichandran Ashwin was one of India’s standout performers on Day Two of the third Test against New Zealand at Wankhede, claiming three wickets, because the visitors ended the day at 171 for 9. While Ashwin didn’t seem to be at his peak earlier in the series, he stepped up confidently in this crucial match, particularly from a World Test Championship standpoint.

Among his 3 dismissals, the delivery that outsmarted Glenn Phillips was particularly remarkable. In addition to his wickets, Ashwin made a notable contribution in the field, including a spectacular diving catch off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling to release Daryl Mitchell.

"I aimed to get as close to the ball as possible. I have confidence in my hands and trusted them to execute the catch," Ashwin elaborated about the Mitchell discharge at the end of the day.

He also discussed his approach to the match, especially the effective partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, as the duo took 7 wickets between them in the 2nd innings.

"The match is essentially split into two halves. The conditions from the pavilion end and the other end are quite different. The wicket here is slightly flatter and offers less bounce, so I thought I’d try a different tactic. Batters are aware that it’s easier to attack me from this end, so I wanted to offer them something unexpected," Ashwin steted further.

Now, India is just one wicket away from cleaning up the New Zealand tail in the second innings.
