Abhinav Bindra is struggling to find the right words to express his feelings about India's performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Although India matched its medal tally from the London 2012 Games and achieved its joint second-best medal haul ever, Bindra is disappointed that the country did not win any gold medals. India sent a strong team of 117 athletes to Paris and, after a successful Olympics in Tokyo where they won 7 medals, many hoped that they would surpass that number this time, possibly reaching double digits or even more.

Abhinav Bindra, India's first individual Olympic gold medalist and a member of the International Olympic Committee's Athletes Commission, feels that India's performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics is a 'mixed bag.' India won six medals: five bronzes and one silver. Although this is an improvement from past Games, it falls short of expectations, especially in terms of gold medals. Over the past 16 years and four Olympics, India's medal count has included only one gold, won by Neeraj Chopra in Tokyo. Despite some impressive performances, the overall result is seen as disappointing, particularly because there were hopes for more gold medals this time.

Abhinav said thta, "The Olympics is a very, very hard platform to perform at for a variety of reasons. But the Olympics is also a platform which is imperfect for performance. Because there's external expectations, and you also have internal expectations, that just doesn’t allow you to let go. Performance sometimes is almost artistic in nature. That's where you almost have to allow it to happen. And the ability to let go is very difficult,"

He also added, "So skill is almost thrown into the dustbin. Sometimes for most athletes, there will be a few who are just so great, but for a majority, it's not just picking up your skill and trying to get things together. You have to almost find perfection on that imperfect day."
