Tamil Director G Marimuthu Dies At 57, Jailer Co-star Rajinikanth & Other Celebs Mourns The Loss

On Friday, South movies Tamil director and actor G Marimuthu took his last breath, and superstar Rajinikanth who worked with him in the recent ‘Jailer’ movie and other Kollywood celebrities paid tributes.

Director and actor G Marimuthu used to work in the Tamil film industry and was famously known for his humour and natural acting on the spot of shooting without any preparation. He left home from the village of Pasumalaitheri in Theni and moved to Chennai to become a filmmaker. Made debut as a director with Kannum Kannum (2008), followed by Pulivaal (2014). And as an actor, he was best known for the TV series Ethirneechal.

G Marimuthu Dies At 57

On Friday morning, Marimuthu left his family and the cinema industry in shock. The director died due to cardiac arrest around 8:30 am, It is said that he collapsed while dubbing for his television serial Ethirneechal at a Chennai studio after which he was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Vadapalani, where he was declared dead, ANI reported. 

G Marimuthu was recently seen in a blockbuster hit film ‘Jailer’ that starred Rajinikanth in the lead, the superstar and other Tamil industry celebrities Nelson Dilipkumar, Vijay Sethupathi, Jayam Ravi, Suriya, Karthi and others paid tribute to the director-actor.

Actor Prasanna worked with Marimuthu in ‘Kannum Kannum’ and ‘Pulivaal’ wrote – “Deeply shattered to know the passing away of director G Marimuthu. We did Kannum Kannum and Pulivaal together. We had a brothers like bond. We agreed to disagree on many. His life wasn’t easy at all. As an actor finally he was doing very well. He should’ve been there for a while longer. Sad. Rip.”

The production that backed ‘Jailer’, Sun Pictures also paid tribute – “Condolences! Your work has been impeccable and irreplaceable. Rest in peace Marimuthu.”

Besides being an actor and a filmmaker, Marimuthu, in the initial stages of his career, worked as an assistant director and also collaborated with lyricist Vairamuthu.
