South Korean footballer Son Heung Min has responded to serious allegations involving a woman who claimed she was pregnant and later demanded money from him. The Tottenham Hotspur forward recently submitted a detailed written statement to Gangnam Police Station, outlining what happened from his point of view.
The woman at the center of the case, identified only by her surname Yang, is in her 20s. She and a man in his 40s, surnamed Yong, are now under police investigation for allegedly blackmailing Son. According to Son’s statement, both individuals worked together to pressure him for financial compensation after Yang claimed she was pregnant with his child.
Son said he returned to South Korea on May 23 last year to get ready for the second round of World Cup qualifiers. He met with Yang twice — on May 31 and June 1 — just before flying out to Singapore for a match on June 2. Son noted that these were the only times the two met.
About a month later, Yang reportedly contacted him and said she was pregnant. Son claimed he offered to meet and talk in person, but instead, Yang refused and began demanding money. According to his side, she kept pushing for financial compensation and never agreed to meet face-to-face again.
So far, police have not called Son in for a direct investigation. Instead, their current focus is on looking into whether Yang and Yong conspired together to blackmail him. Once that part of the investigation is wrapped up, authorities plan to send the case to prosecutors for further legal steps.
