In the year 1994, Akshay Kumar delivered five successful films at the box-office. These films were ‘Mohra’ (blockbuster), ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ (hit), ‘Suhaag’ (hit), ‘Yeh Dillagi’ (hit) and ‘Elaan’ (semi-hit). While doing multiple films in a year was a norm for leading men back in the day, that is not the case anymore. While some actors do one film in a year, there are a few who clock in two releases. However, even today, Akshay Kumar continues to do 4-5 films every year. In the recent times, 2017 has probably been his least busy year wherein he had just two films (‘Jolly LLB 2’ and ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’) as a leading man and one film (‘Naam Shabana’) in which he had an extended cameo.
While there have been hits and misses, Akshay’s success ratio has been very good. 2019 was one of the best years in his professional career as he had four releases and all of them turned out to be successful. ‘Kesari’, the first release of the year, turned out to be his first film which went past the 150-crore mark at the domestic box-office. Then, ‘Mission Mangal’ and ‘Housefull 4’ went on to do a business of 200 crore plus in India. ‘Good Newwz’, his latest release, has become a certified hit in less than a week of its release and is on its way to become a bonafide super-hit.
The last time Akshay delivered four successful films in a year was 2007. That year, his films ‘Namastey London’ (hit), ‘Heyy Babyy’ (hit), ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ (super-hit) and ‘Welcome’ (blockbuster), all struck gold at the box-office. In the following years, there were several instances in which he had four releases in a year but there was not a single instance wherein all the four films became successful.
With four successful films, 2019 is definitely a landmark year for Akshay. Now, one hopes just like 1994, there comes another year where he delivers five hits in a row again!
