Satya Box Office Special Report – Check Out The Lifetime Collections Manoj Bajpayee Starrer

The year 1998 was probably the biggest year of Khans. Salman Khan made a comeback with Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, Shah Rukh Khan stole the hearts with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai while Aamir Khan surprised every one with Ghulam. Among these films, one of  most under-rated film. Satya, which was packed with powerful performances, eye-popping direction and solid screenplay, was released. As the film completes 22 years today, let us see how much the action drama made in its lifetime at the box office.

After giving the disastorous Daud in 1997,  by Ram Gopal Varma came back with a bang in Satya. The the man behind the cult films like Raat and Rangeela, Ram Gopal Varma took underworld drama to another level with realistic portrayal of the crime scene in Mumbai.

It was the year 1998 which changed the fortune of Manoj Bajpayee with enduring performances in Satya as Bhiku Matre. Yes, the actor who has struggled for so many years and was rejected so many times, Manoj did not lose hope and went on to do small roles with big stars ( he played a a dacoit in Shekhar Kapur’s acclaimed drama Bandit Queen). When we talk about Manoj Bajpai, only one thing come to our mind – The powerhouse of talent. Satya will always remain a special film as Manoj Bajpayee deep-dived into the character as if it was tailor-made for him.

Satya also boasted off solid performances from Urmila Matondkar,  Shefali Shah, Chakravarthi and Saurabh Shukla. Songs like “Kallu Mama” and Bheegha Bheegha Pani” which was brilliantly composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and penned by Gulzar, Satya became a solid hit with a strong word of mouth reviews. Screenplay written by Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Shukla was another highlight of the film.

Satya was released on 3rd July, 1998 at 85 screens to Rs 25 lakhs. The action-drama collected Rs 1.74 crores in its first week and went onto collect Rs 14.08 crores against a budget of Rs 3 crores and turned out to be “Super-Hit” at the box office.
