The long wait for BTS’ full comeback is nearly over. This week, two more members of the global K-pop group, RM and V, officially wrapped up their mandatory military service in South Korea — taking the group one big step closer to a full reunion.
On June 10, both RM and V were discharged from service. Hundreds of BTS ARMY members gathered in Chuncheon City to welcome them back.
Fans cheered and waved banners, celebrating the milestone moment as the two musicians stepped out after completing their duties.
Speaking to the crowd, V expressed heartfelt gratitude:
To all the ARMYs who have waited for us in the military, I want to say I am truly, truly grateful,” he said. “Please wait just a little longer and we will return with a really cool performance.
Images of RM and V smiling and greeting fans quickly circulated online, fueling even more excitement for the group’s return.
BTS had pressed pause on group activities in 2023 so its members could fulfill South Korea’s mandatory military service requirements for men aged 18 to 35. Each member serves about 18 months, a process required of all able-bodied men in the country.
The military timeline for BTS members looks like this:
- Jin and J-Hope were discharged in June and October 2024, respectively.
- Jimin and Jung Kook are expected to be discharged on June 11.
- Suga, who was assigned to alternative service due to a past injury, has been working as a social worker. His discharge is expected later this month.
While the members served, they didn’t disappear from public view. Several members, including Jin and J-Hope, have released solo music, performed, and even appeared on variety shows.
Now, with most members finishing their service, ARMY is looking forward to a long-awaited group reunion. BTS hasn’t released a group project since 2022, but hopes are high that new music and performances will soon be on the horizon.
Even BTS members have hinted at their eagerness to return. Back in December, J-Hope shared:
After pursuing our own little ventures, we are now coming back together, and I love that for us.
As for what’s next, fans can expect more updates once Jimin, Jung Kook, and Suga complete their service later this month. The full seven-member lineup coming together again feels more real than ever.
