Overall Rating : 4/5

Plot :
The story centers on Major Vijay Menon (Prithviraj Sukumaran), a disciplined army officer stationed in Kashmir. Raised in a rigid military household, he still bears the emotional weight of a distant and demanding father. Unknowingly, he begins to impose the same harsh expectations on his own son, Harman (Ibrahim Ali Khan), a boy struggling with a speech disorder and a deep-seated sense of self-doubt. Between them stands Meher (Kajol), a mother who connects more deeply with her son’s quiet pain than with her husband’s unwavering ideals.

When a terrorist exchange operation spirals out of control, it sends Harman down an unforeseen path. Consumed by feelings of rejection and anger, he finds himself drawn into the very world his father is battling. Now on the opposing side, Harman transforms from a vulnerable boy into a dangerous tool of conflict, prepared to take extreme measures. The film then explores whether love—whether from a parent or another source—has the power to heal what’s been broken.

What We Liked : The film’s themes are compelling in concept. It aims to explore the impact of generational trauma, the way hatred takes root in the absence of love, and the possibility of finding redemption after deep emotional damage.

What We Loved : The film moves at a brisk pace, leaving little or no chance for boredom—there’s constantly something unfolding on screen. On the technical front, the film has its highlights. The cinematography is particularly striking, beautifully showcasing the stunning landscapes of Kashmir. The action and chase scenes are executed well—gritty, impactful, and restrained, without tipping into excess.

What We Did Not Like : The script feels quite rushed with unclear character motivations. While Sarzameen has powerful themes—like inherited trauma and the roots of hate—it lacks the clarity and control to effectively translate the same on screen.

Performances : For Prithviraj, the role comes naturally as he convincingly embodies a tough character. He portrays the army officer with ease, and his body language adds credibility to the performance.

Kajol is the film’s strongest performer, anchoring Sarzameen with the confidence of a seasoned actor. Her heartfelt performance brings a layer of emotional authenticity the film truly needs.

Ibrahim Ali Khan shows improvement from his performance in Nadaaniyan, though he still feels a bit unpolished. He shines in certain moments—particularly in the action scenes and in quieter, brooding shots that don’t demand too much. There are glimpses of vulnerability as well, which work in his favor.

Conclusion : Sarzameen is a powerful story of love, loss, and loyalty, balancing delicately between patriotic duty and personal struggle. You can watch the movie on JioStar.
