Who else can be called as the king of Romance? SRK and nobody else. But why watch Zero, which did not work well at the Box Office? For one, it is an SRK movie. But the second reason is the most compelling one. Shahrukh’s witty cynicism in the movie’s trailers show that the screenplay and the dialogues are quite interesting. Secondly, the movie is all about escapism. It helps to relieve oneself from the reality.
Another thing about this movie is that, it might have not been labelled as a hit in the box office, but because it was made on a massive budget of ₹200 crores, and it managed to recover ₹186 crores, so it managed to break the ₹100 crore barrier. That means the movie worked but not as well as expected.
The movie’s plot is also an unusual ones and maybe that is why it did not connect with the audience at an optimum level. The level of creativity that has been induced in the movie by the writer Himanshu Sharma(of Tanu weds Manu fame) is awesome. It would have worked its magic on the intelligent audience who have imagination. If you are still confused what we are talking about, just read on.
Bauaa Singh, our protagonist is suffering from dwarfism and holds a grudge on his father. Writer-Director-Actor Tigmanshu Dhulia plays his father, businessman Ashok Singh, who has a habit of chewing gutkha. There are some hilarious moments in between the father and son duo. The dialogue,”Gutka khaaya tha, isiliye meri height ruk gayi” is something that could literally make you roll on the floor.
But that’s not the highlight of the movie. Shahrukh and Anushka have an awesome chemistry together. Anushka playing a cerebral palsy patient is one of the most beautiful performances by the actor. Katrina playing Babita Kumari also shows that she is putting in a lot of hard work and is trying to increase her range of performances onscreen. Katrina can act, but she has focused more on dance in her career, which kind of takes you away from her heavily-nuanced acting and she is versatile. Zero has been able to showcase her capability as a performer.
Another actor whose performance is underrated yet just among the best is Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. who plays Shahrukh’s loyal friend, Guddu Mukhi. Both Guudu and Bauaa try to travel to Mars as a part of an adventure and Bauaa’s mission to win back and reconcile with Aafia makes one heck of a story. So if you want to watch something on Sunday, and you are done with all the harsh reality of the pandemic, then Zero by Aanand L Rai is a must-watch.
