Choi Yena is one of the most popular Korean artists, she was part of the girl-group band Iz*One and she went solo under Yuehua Entertainment on January 17, 2022, with the release of her first EP Smiley.
Now Yena is all set to make her comeback with the second album and her recently released upcoming MV teaser titled ‘Hate Rodrigo’ featuring Yuqi didn’t do well among the audience. That felt like a diss track coming up for the American Singer Olivia Rodrigo and expressing hate towards her. Though the singer has clarified the meaning of using ‘hate’ in the title that is a strong word to fans for a star they actually like.
In the latest interview with a variety show called The K Star Next Door, Choi clarifies saying she’s an admirer, fan and actually jealous of the way Olivia receives all the love and success from her followers and she doesn’t hate her.
But as soon as she teased a music video with the fans, they immediately recognized it resembles Rodrigo’s famous track ‘déjà Vu and were unhappy with her idol using the word ‘hate’ alongside the 20-year-old artist’s name. One also pointed out that even if the lyrics are good they cannot accept the title to be cool, they also spotted Olivia’s picture poster used in the MV.

Sorry for intruding, just wanted to clarify that it's actually not a diss track or anything like that. Apparently, it's more like Yena chose Olivia Rodrigo to represent all the successful, younger artists that she admires and is "jealous" of. It's basically a homage to her!

Yes, though she is vulnerable and shows her true feelings towards an American singer but still it is a negative connotation and that cannot be encouraged because hate is a big word among the audience to be used as it can easily hurt anyone’s feelings.
Choi Yena’s ‘Hate Rodrigo’ music video is all set to be out on June 27th, 2023.
