On February 14, JioStar made a groundbreaking announcement: the launch of JioHotstar! This exciting new platform combines the best of JioCinema and Disney Hotstar, offering a one-stop destination for all your streaming needs. Get ready for an unmatched entertainment experience, where blockbuster movies, thrilling TV shows, and live sports come together like never before!
This announcement follows the recent merger and the creation of JioStar, a joint venture between Viacom18 and Star India. The company stated that merging the two OTT platforms will "unlock infinite possibilities" for the audiences and "redefine entertainment". With over 300,000 hours of content and extensive live sports coverage, the new platform is set to reach an impressive user base of 500 million, according to the statement.
“At the core of JioHotstar is a powerful vision to make premium entertainment truly accessible to all Indians. Our promise of Infinite Possibilities ensures that entertainment is no longer a privilege, but a shared experience for all. By integrating AI-driven recommendations and offering streaming in over 19 languages, we are personalizing content like never before,” said Kiran Mani, CEO – Digital, JioStar.
The new OTT platform announced that it will remain accessible to all users without requiring a subscription to view content. However, for a more enhanced and uninterrupted experience, viewers can opt for subscription plans starting at Rs 149. The company also stated that existing JioCinema or Disney Hotstar subscribers can "easily transition" and set up their JioHotstar plan.
JioHotstar will bring the best of Hollywood to its users, featuring content from Disney, NBCUniversal Peacock, Warner Bros. Discovery HBO, and Paramount—all on one platform. According to the company, this is a unique offering that most global streaming services do not provide. In addition to its extensive content library, the platform will also offer a wide variety of sports, including the Indian Premier League, Women's Premier League, English Premier League, Pro Kabaddi, Indian Super League, Wimbledon, and much more.
