Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming dark fantasy YA film, 'Damsel', set to premiere on March 8, 2024. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and starring Millie Bobby Brown as Elordi, the film promises to redefine the role of female protagonists in fantasy cinema.
The trailer introduces viewers to a gripping tale of bravery and survival, as a princess finds herself trapped in a cave with a fearsome dragon. Instead of waiting to be rescued, she takes matters into her own hands, showcasing a strong and independent spirit that defies traditional gender roles.
Millie Bobby Brown, speaking about her character, stated, "She’s a damsel who doesn’t need to be saved. She saves herself in many ways. It subverts what you expect: You’re expecting the prince to turn around and save her, and… no. Don’t wait for the prince."
In 'Damsel', a dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to discover that she has been recruited as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive, challenging the audience's expectations at every turn.
The film boasts a stellar cast, including Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Angela Bassett, and Robin Wright, and is produced by Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Chris Castaldi.
