Following the tragic passing of weathercaster Oh Yoanna, tvN has removed Episode 170 of You Quiz On The Block, which featured her alongside fellow weathercasters Bae Hye Ji and Nam Yu Jin. The episode was available on TVING until January 30, 2025 (KST), but has now been taken down.
According to OSEN, all clips featuring Oh Yoanna have been removed from other platforms like YouTube and Naver TV, while segments featuring actor Son Suk Ku and Professor Kim Bung Nyeon remain. This move comes amid growing controversy over allegations that Oh Yoanna faced workplace bullying before her death.
Korean news reports have suggested that Oh Yoanna was ostracized by her colleagues after appearing on You Quiz On The Block. Kang Myeong Il, the emergency response committee chair of MBC’s labor union, revealed that a group chat existed among weathercasters—excluding Oh Yoanna and one other colleague.
While MBC initially remained silent, the network later issued a statement emphasizing its stance against workplace bullying.
Here is the statement below:
MBC is against workplace bullying and handles such cases with zero tolerance. If any reports of bullying or counseling requests from any of the contracted freelancers or cast members are received, an investigation will be launched without hesitation. Thus, if the bereaved family requests fact-checking based on the newly discovered will, MBC will begin looking into the matter as quickly as possible.
Despite MBC’s statement, Oh Yoanna’s family has strongly criticized the company for failing to take action when she was alive. They claim she had previously reached out for help but was ignored.
The family has also pointed out that neither MBC nor the alleged bullies have issued an apology. As a result, they are now preparing legal action against the network.
The case has sparked a widespread discussion about workplace bullying and the responsibility of companies to protect their employees. Many are calling for stricter policies to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
