North Korea is a country where secrets are safe and reality is only what its supreme leader Kim Jong Un wants people to see. In the recent news update about the country, on Wednesday one of the top South Korean military officials said that North Korea may soon conduct its first underwater-launched ballistic missile test in about a year.
The tests will be conducted amidst a time when the talks between North Korea and the USA are long halted. Won In-choul, who is the nominee for chairman of South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, also stated that North Korea is currently repairing recent damage caused due to Typhoon at its northeastern Sinpo shipyard, it is a place where it manufactures submarines.
According to a copy of his remarks provided by a lawmaker, Kang Dae-Sik, reported by Associated Press, it is anticipated that after the repairing work is completed there is a high possibility that it will conduct a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) test. He added that South Korea’s military is keeping a close eye on further developments there.
As per the reports, a test of an underwater-launched missile by North Korea carried out last October was the first of its kind in three years, and the most destructive weapons test ever since North Korea entered its nuclear negotiations with the U.S. in 2018.
Its main motive behind launching SLBM is to pressurize the USA after its presidential election. There has also been speculation that North Korea may test such a missile before the anniversary of the founding of its ruling Workers’ Party on October 10.
The presidents of two countries that are Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump have met three times to have talks on military and missiles however nothing much has achieved from it.
