On Friday, the UP government announced that it has intensified its preparations for the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj to ensure smooth arrangements for devotees during the last major bathing ritual on Mahashivratri, which occurs on February 26. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh & Director General of Police Prashant Kumar visited Mahakumbh Nagar to assess the arrangements and also provide essential guidance to officials, as stated in an official announcement.
The officials informed reporters that very big measures are being put in place for traffic control, crowd management, and facilitating seamless rituals, particularly during the busy weekend period.
Simultaneously, the UP government has also indicated that it is vigilantly monitoring "attempts to disrupt the sanctity" of the Maha Kumbh through deceptive social media posts.
DGP Kumar has guaranteed strict measures against those responsible for such posts, disclosing that over 50 FIRs have already been filed against individuals disseminating the misinformation.
During their inspection, Chief Secretary Singh and DGP Kumar surveyed the Sangam ghats by boat, evaluated cleanliness efforts, and also provided additional directives to enhance the preparations. Till date, approx 59CR devotees have participated in this monumental religious and cultural gathering, taking a holy dip at the sacred meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the unseen Saraswati, according to an official statement.
As the auspicious Maha Kumbh, which begin on January 13, enters its concluding phase, the government reported that an estimated one crore devotees are still arriving each day.
