Threat to Salim Khan
The Bandra police have detained a motorcyclist for allegedly threatening Salim Khan, the father of actor Salman Khan and a renowned scriptwriter, by invoking the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Authorities, however, suspect the incident might have been a prank.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning while Salim Khan was seated at the promenade on Carter Road. A man on a scooter, with a woman as a passenger, stopped near him. The rider reportedly made a threatening comment, saying, "Lawrence Bishnoi ko bheju kya?" (Shall I send Lawrence Bishnoi?), before quickly leaving the scene.
Khan later informed the police that he was resting on a bench near the Windmere Building when the incident happened. He also mentioned that the woman passenger was wearing a burka, covering her face.
The scriptwriter immediately notified the authorities, leading to a case being registered against the scooter rider. A Bandra police officer said, "Khan could only identify four digits of the number plate—7444—which helped us track down and detain the man." The police have charged the man and woman under sections 353(2) (inciting enmity between different groups), 292 (public nuisance), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Sanjay Marathe, senior inspector at Bandra police station, stated, "We are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the couple, though we believe it may have been a prank."
This incident is part of a series of security concerns for the Khan family. Two days earlier, police arrested a motorcyclist for reckless driving after he tried to infiltrate Salman Khan's convoy. Previously, Salim Khan had also received a threatening note at Bandstand.
These incidents follow heightened security measures for the Khan family after a shooting occurred outside their residence on April 14. In the early hours of that day, two men on a motorcycle fired multiple rounds at the actor's house before fleeing. The Khan family was at their Galaxy Apartment residence in Bandra West at the time.
In a 1,735-page charge sheet presented to the special MCOCA court, police named nine individuals, including Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Anmol, believed to be in Canada, took responsibility for the attack in a Facebook post. The charge sheet alleges that Anmol instructed Vicky Gupta to fire shots outside Salman Khan’s residence to intimidate him.
Other arrested individuals include Sagarkumar Pal, Sonukumar Bishnoi, Mohd Rafiq Choudhary, and Harpal Singh. Another suspect, Anujkumar Thapan, died by suicide while in police custody.
The remaining suspects are in judicial custody. The police have charged the suspects under various sections, including ₹50,000 for causing public nuisance and common intention.
