A man shared his experience on Reddit about asking his mother not to kiss his newborn due to her cold sore, which led to some family tension. In the viral post, the man, who goes by the username Exciting-Stuff-7189, explained that he and his wife, both in their 30s, have a three-month-old baby. During a recent visit from his parents, the man's wife noticed that his mother had a cold sore near her mouth. Concerned for the baby's health, his wife asked him to remind his mother not to kiss the baby at that time.

When the man approached his mother with the request, she immediately handed the baby back to him and became visibly upset. His father also got angry, to the point where they almost decided to leave the house. Although they eventually stayed, the atmosphere remained tense. The man mentioned that his parents accused him of being picky, inconsiderate, and rude. He added that his wife had informed him about the potential risks of cold sores and kissing babies.

The post sparked a discussion among Reddit users, with one commenter, sorry-analysis8628, stating, "Even without the cold sore, no one aside from the parents should be kissing a 3-month-old. With a cold sore, that's absolutely insane. My daughter is six, and I wouldn't let her near anyone with a cold sore. Your mom's reaction is troubling. Be prepared for more of this kind of behavior from her."

Another user, BlueGreen_1956, added, "The real question is why she needed to be told in the first place. Anyone who would kiss a baby with a cold sore shouldn't be allowed near the baby. Also, if she's not up to date on her Tdap, I wouldn't even let her in the house."

This post highlights the difficulties of navigating family dynamics while prioritizing a baby's health. Many Reddit users shared similar experiences, noting that such conflicts are common but can be resolved with effective communication.
