STUDENTS VS POLICE IN ANDHRA PRADESH

An engineering college in Andhra Pradesh was thrown into turmoil when students reportedly discovered a hidden camera in the women’s toilet, sparking massive protests involving both students and faculty members who demanded a thorough investigation. Although chants of "we want justice" continue to resonate outside the Gudlavalleru Engineering College hostel, police claim they have not found any cameras or leaked videos.

"We found no hidden cameras in the girls' hostel during our investigation. We searched the suspected student laptops, mobile phones, and other devices in the presence of students and college staff. No videos were found. Female students need not worry," stated Krishna District SP Gandadhar Rao.

His statement followed the arrest of a senior student from the boys' hostel in connection with the incident. Protesters, outraged by the police’s remarks, argue that they are simply seeking justice, but feel the college administration and law enforcement are trying to undermine their concerns.

"They ignored me when I first reported the hidden camera," said one protesting student, who claimed she had informed the college management about the camera a week ago, but no action was taken.

"When I complained again yesterday around 5 p.m., they told me it would take a month to investigate. Then, overnight, they spread rumors that it was fake news. They even asked me to call my father. What have we done wrong? Is it a crime to demand justice?" the student added.

The college's faculty association also expressed surprise at the police's findings.

Since yesterday evening, students have been protesting, alleging that a senior student, with the help of a female student, installed the camera. They claim several videos recorded by the hidden camera were being sold by the accused. The Andhra Pradesh government has launched an inquiry into the incident and promised strict action against those responsible.

"The Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry into the students' concerns about hidden cameras in the hostel. He directed the District Collector and SP, along with the District Minister, to visit the site immediately," the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) said in a statement.
