Shreya Dhanwanthary has voiced what many Mumbaikars are feeling about the real estate prices in the city. The actor, famous for her role as journalist Sucheta Dalal in Scam 1992, described buying a home in Mumbai as a “scam” and a “crazy and ridiculously expensive dream.”
The actor took to her X handle on Friday and wrote, “I’m gonna say it: I think buying a house in Mumbai is… a scam. And I hate that I still want to fulfil that very foolish and very stupidly expensive dream.”
Many users on X shared Shreya Dhanwanthary's frustration. One person advised, “Don’t fall for it—just rent.” Another noted, “It’s the same in all major cities, not just Mumbai.” A third user shared their experience: “I avoided buying for a long time and it made financial sense, but eventually, I gave in.” Meanwhile, a fourth user remarked, “Millions get caught in this trap. Welcome to the club.”
One user shared, “I know someone who moved to Bangalore just to achieve that dream. They ended up buying a house in Uru.” Another user remarked, “It might be easier for celebrities like you. I can’t imagine how regular people manage to buy a house.” A third comment read, “Are you talking about Scam 2024?”
