MUMBAI TO GOA IN 6 HOURS
Maharashtra has developed several expressways to enhance connectivity within the state and to neighboring states, significantly reducing travel time. The state government now plans to construct another expressway from Mumbai to Goa, known as the Konkan Expressway. This proposed Greenfield Expressway will run along the scenic Konkan coast.
Future road travel between Mumbai and Goa is set to become much more comfortable for commuters. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will oversee the construction of this 376-kilometer-long, 6-lane access-controlled highway.
The preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Konkan Expressway is already underway. MSRDC has begun the process of seeking approval from the Environment Department. According to a senior MSRDC official, the DPR will be finalized based on the department's approval.
The expressway will traverse the coastal Konkan region of Maharashtra, with a route connecting Panvel (Navi Mumbai) to Sindhudurg via Raigad and Ratnagiri. MSRDC officials have indicated that the expressway will feature 14 interchanges. This new route is expected to cut travel time between Mumbai and Sindhudurg to around 6 hours, down from the current 12-13 hours.
The estimated cost for constructing the Konkan Expressway is approximately Rs. 68,000 crore. To facilitate the project, around 3,792 hectares of land will need to be acquired, including about 146 hectares currently managed by the forest department.
