A fashion student from Mumbai, S.S. Ghatol, was stopped at Mumbai Airport while trying to board a flight to Singapore. Immigration officials discovered that four pages were missing from her passport. Ghatol, a first-year student, was traveling to Singapore on a tourist visa for an institute-sponsored internship. She had torn out the passport pages to hide her previous trip to Thailand from February 11 to 14.

A police official revealed that Ghatol damaged her passport to conceal her Thailand trip from her institute and had also skipped an exam, claiming illness. Sujit Patil, Assistant Immigration Officer, said Ghatol’s actions were meant to cover up her Thailand visit, which caused her to miss the exam.

Patil mentioned that Ghatol feared her institute, which had selected her for the overseas internship, would discover her Thailand trip and that this was why she missed the exam. The student has been charged with cheating and violations under the Passport Act.
