Mumbai Airport T1 To Shut Down
The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) revealed through its official statement that Terminal 1 will obtain a new capacity to handle 20 million annual passengers following redevelopment which will represent a 42 percent increase from its existing capacity.
Passengers will use Terminal 2 of CSMIA in conjunction with the newly constructed Navi Mumbai International Airport while the redevelopment work takes place. The project will enter its first phase of development starting in November 2025 based on official statement records. The first operational sequence starts with destroying the present building structure before constructing the new airport terminal.
"In November 2025, the transformation of Terminal 1 will proceed in carefully planned phases, ensuring minimal disruption. During the construction, Terminal 2 (T2) will shoulder the additional traffic," the MIAL said in a release.
The authorities predict the completion of Terminal 1 renovation work to occur in 2029 which marks eight years from the present day. Phase II of the project requires builders to construct a new terminal during and after developing the existing terminal. The implementation of changes will take three years to finish.
The MIAL operates CSMIA through its management by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL). The official document reveals that modifications to Terminal 1 will take place while expanding the Passenger Terminal Building because domestic passenger volumes are expected to increase at the airport.
The company plans to consider a future business merger with international units. The terminal's upgrade phase will enhance its structure through multiple facilities such as cooling landscapes and multipurpose power stations and advanced baggage handover technology.
