Massive Fire At Times
A significant fire erupted in a seven-storey commercial building in Mumbai on Friday, according to a civic official. The blaze occurred in the Times Tower building, located in the Kamala Mill compound of the Lower Parel area, around 6:30 am, the official stated. The fire brigade classified it as a level 2 (major) fire and dispatched eight fire engines along with other firefighting vehicles to the scene. No casualties have been reported so far, the official added.
On December 29, 2017, around 12:30 am, a fire broke out at 1Above and then spread to Mojo’s Bistro restaurant within the Kamala Mills compound, resulting in the deaths of 14 people and injuring several others. The Mumbai Police charged a total of 14 individuals, including the owners of the restaurants and their employees, officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and the mill owners.
On November 10, 2020, the Mumbai sessions court discharged the owners of the Kamala Mills compound, Ramesh Gowani and Ravi Bhandari, who had been booked in connection with the 2017 fire.
All the accused are facing charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, among other offenses under the relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006.
Emergency services dispatched four fire engines, one Mobile Fire Tender (MFT), one Quick Response Vehicle (QRV), one Aerial Work Platform (AWTT), two Jet Tanks (JT), and one Turn Table Ladder (TTL) to the scene.
On February 26, 37 individuals were rescued from a commercial center in Mumbai after a fire broke out in the building. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) received a call about the fire at the Options Commercial Centre in Santacruz West at 5:22 pm. The fire was primarily confined to the electric wiring and installations in the second-floor gala of the commercial building, which includes two basement levels, a ground floor, and two upper floors.
