At the Voto Latino Event, US President Joe Biden reacted to a joke made by a Comedian at the Trump Rally, who referred to Puerto Rico as a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean. Joe, visibly frustrated, remarked, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” he said. The remark quickly received a lot of backlash from Republicans who claimed that Biden was calling half of America garbage. "Trump's demonisation of Latinos is unconscionable, and it's un-American. It's contrary to everything we've done, everything we've been,” he said.

The controversy thickened when the White House released the transcript with a change in punctuation. This single change changed the entire context of the statement. Netizens and Republicans were quick to notice it and drag it on social media, calling it an act of propaganda and tarnishing the authenticity of the white house transcript.

For Republicans, this remark came as a big rewards, as they can now drag this till the end of the presidential elections. Trump has distanced himself from the comedian and the statement he made. According to him, he did not know who he was or how he reached there.

After the backlash, Biden made an attempt to clarify that he meant supporters like the comedian and people who support such hate speech and not the citizens as a whole. However, the impact of this clarification can only be seen on 5 November when the votes are turned in.
