The Russia-Ukraine War

He started by emphasising how Russia needs to find ways to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War. He took up this topic with Russian President Putin himself. He responded by stating that it’s hard to ignore this when the Global South and East are interested in this.

Joining of New Members

He said that India is ready to let other countries join the BRICS Bloc but the decision needs to be unanimous and in view with the founding members of the bloc. He mentioned that all standards and criteria should be followed and that they should move with the international organisation to align with global reforms.

PM Modi made it very clear that all the BRICS countries need to work together to deal with terrorism and to make sure that the youth of their respective countries are not prone to radicalisation.

Diplomacy over War

In his remarks, he mentioned how the summit is taking place when the world is struggling with conflicts and global warming and he believes that BRICS is a platform that can be used to have a positive impact. He also said that the world is looking at the BRICS countries to reduce the north-south and east-west divide.

BRICS representation in World Economy and Humanity.

He stated that the BRICS countries make up 40% of the World's Humanity and 30% of the world economy. He believes that the organisation will emerge as a new hope to deal with global issues. He also noted that the economy of the BRICS countries combined is 30 Trillion Dollars.

Collective growth.

He ended his opening remarks by stating that all the BRICS countries need to collaborate to help each other grow together and develop each other's infrastructure.

Following this PM Modi initiated a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the first since 2020 tensions.

BRICS, a bloc of five countries, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, is a bloc of emerging markets that plan to dominate the world economy by 2050.
