A first year student of medical college in Gujarat has died reportedly due to ragging as he was forced to stand for three hours on his bare feet by the seniors. Anil Methania was among th first-year students to get admission in the GMERS Medical College and Hospital in Dharpur Patan, this year. Third-year student at the hostel has been accused of making them stand for three hours at a stretch for an introduction.

It is notable that words like ‘Introduction’ or ‘intro’ are commonly used when seniors launch ragging on the new comers on the residential campuses. It is alleged that after having been on his feet for three hours, Anil fainted and got unconscious. He was admitted and to the police, he gave them a statement that he was forced to stand for three hours. He died soon after. The victim’s body has been taken for postmortem and further details concerning the casualty are expectantly expected from the result.

Anil's cousin Dharmendra said the family stays in Gujarat's Surendranagar district -- over 150 km from the college in Patan. "We received a call from the college yesterday and were told that Anil collapsed and has been hospitalised. When we reached here, we came to know that third-year students ragged him. We want justice," he said.
