This marked the beginning of the GSB Seva Mandal’s 70th Ganeshotsav celebrations, famously known for hosting India’s richest Lord Ganesh idol. Adorned in yellow attire, the idol was embellished with over 66 kg of gold ornaments, more than 336 kg of silver, and precious stones.

The Ganapati festival, which starts on September 7, is one of Maharashtra’s major celebrations. Ganeshotsav lasts for ten days, filled with joyous festivities, elaborate rituals, and concludes with the grand visarjan, where Ganesh idols are immersed in water bodies amidst chants and music.

Preparations for the festival have commenced with great enthusiasm. Idol makers are crafting eco-friendly statues of Lord Ganesh, while the markets are buzzing with festive spirit. Sculptors are hard at work, adding final touches to the idols.
