Eknath Shinde Resigns His CM Position
Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra and the leader of Shiv Sena, submitted his resignation on Tuesday – four days after the Mahayuti coalition secured a thumping victory in the assembly poll. Shinde on Tuesday morning paid a courtesy call on Governor CP Radhakrishnan and resigned from the post. The governor then urged Shinde to act as the caretaker chief minister until a new CM is inaugurated.
The BJP demanded the post of the chief minister based on its victory in the assembly election wherein it secured 132 assembly seats becoming the party with the most number of seats in the assembly. Despite the Shiv Sena having secured only 57 assembly seats it has been insisting on the chief minister post again citing some political understanding in Bihar of the NDA.
Nitish Kumar is the incumbent chief minister of the state even though BJP has more muscle power in the alliance context. Shiv Sena’s spokesperson Sheetal Mhatre who inaugurated Eknath Shinde today informed reporters that the Maratha community wants him to remain in the post. The leader added that Shinde should also remain in the post of the chief minister as the state goes to polls for the elections to the local bodies soon. S
hiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske on Monday further demanded that the BJP must offer the post of Maharashtra chief minister for Eknath Shinde saying that BJP must react to people who opine that the BJP uses and dumps allies. Speaking to reporters, Maharashtra minister and Shiv Sena legislator Deepak Kesarkar said his party legislators believe that Eknath Shinde should remain the chief minister.
"Shiv Sena MLAs feel Shinde should continue in the post because under his leadership the Mahayuti worked very well and performed spectacularly in polls," Kesarkar told reporters.
He, however, added that Shinde and Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) and Ajit Pawar (NCP) will take a unanimous decision.
"After the great victory of the Mahayuti alliance, our government will be formed once again in the state. As a grand alliance, we contested the election together and are still together today,” Shinde said on X, asking his supporters not to assemble outside the Varsha bungalow, or any other location in his support.
"Out of love for me, some people have appealed to everyone to gather together and come to Mumbai. I am deeply grateful for your love. But I appeal that no one should come together in my support in such a manner," Shinde added.
Eknath Shinde had become the chief minister in 2022, after he rebelled against then CM Uddhav Thackeray and joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
