Port Blair: The Police has reported on Wednesday that a US citizen was apprehended in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for allegedly trespassing into the restricted tribal reserve of North Sentinel Island.

Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov (24), who was detained by the CID on March 31, reportedly entered North Sentinel Island without any authorization, authorities have confirmed.

He arrived in Port Blair on March 26 and set out for North Sentinel Island from Kurma Dera beach, officials said.

He launched his boat from Kurma Dera beach around 1 am on March 29, bringing a coconut & a can of cola as "offerings for the Sentinelese," police elaborated.

Polyakov reached the northeastern shore of North Sentinel Island by approx 10 am in the morning. Using binoculars, he surveyed the area but saw no inhabitants, authorities said.

He remained off the coast for about an hour, by blowing a whistle to attract attention, but he received no response.

He then briefly landed for approximately five minutes, left the offerings on the shore, collected sand samples, and recorded a video before going back to his boat, police added furthermore.

At 1 pm, he began his return journey, reaching Kurma Dera Beach by 7 pm, where local fishermen noticed him, according to the officials.
