A tragic incident unfolded in Chennai's Kolathur as a 19-year-old food delivery boy reportedly died by suicide on Tuesday, following an altercation with a customer over a delayed grocery delivery. The teenager, a BCom student working part-time for a food delivery service, left a suicide note expressing his deep disappointment after being scolded by the customer.
The incident began on September 11 when the young man delivered groceries to a house in Korattur. However, he faced difficulties locating the address, resulting in a delay. The woman customer reportedly argued with him over the late delivery and later lodged a complaint with the delivery service, requesting that he not be sent to her house again.
According to a report from The Times of India, the incident left the teenager distressed. Two days later, in a fit of frustration, he allegedly threw a stone at the woman's house, causing a window to break. The woman filed a police complaint, after which the police warned the boy in the presence of his parents and allowed him to go without further action.
Five days after the police warning, the young man took his life at his home in Kolathur. His suicide note cited the incident with the customer as the cause of his emotional turmoil.
Police have since registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
