Badshah Recalls His Condition To Karan Johar
Rapper Badshah shared that he doesn't believe in asking for work, trusting instead that true talent will shine without needing to pull strings. He recounted how Dharma Productions approached him for the rights to his song "Saturday Saturday" and how he handled the situation strategically. In an interview with The Lallantop, he said, "I don’t think one should seek out work; people should come to you."
He elaborated, "Focus on doing your job so well that you never have to chase opportunities. Give it your all, perfect your craft." Reflecting on his experience with Dharma, Badshah shared that director Shashank Khaitan and actor Varun Dhawan heard "Saturday Saturday" at a club in Chandigarh and wanted it for Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. They even attempted to create their own version before contacting him.
Badshah continued, "Someone from Dharma reached out, saying they wanted the song. I said, ‘Cool, it’s yours’. They asked me to come to Mumbai, but I replied, ‘If you want the song, come to Chandigarh’. And they actually did! Of course, I went to Mumbai later."
This marked the beginning of his creative relationship with Dharma, though he didn’t meet Karan Johar until later. In the same interview, Badshah mentioned that Karan offered him acting roles in Lust Stories and Good Newwz, but those roles ultimately went to Vicky Kaushal and Diljit Dosanjh. Badshah's songs have since featured in Dharma films like Kapoor & Sons, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and Good Newwz, in addition to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. He also appeared on an episode of Koffee with Karan, alongside Diljit Dosanjh.
